459 students graduate from Carleton College
Four hundred and fifty-nine graduates were conferred the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Carleton College on Saturday, June 15, 2019, the culmination of four years of study in the liberal arts.

Students Collaborate on Giant Peony Sculpture
Seven students had the opportunity to work with Ethiopian artist Elias Sime as he created a site-specific oversized peony sculpture as part of his fall exhibition at the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art. "Flowers and Roots" is made of repurposed computer parts, electrical wire, bronze sheeting, and cast stone amalgam. It was inspired by the tree peonies hybridized by Professor of Chemistry A.P. Saunders from 1920 to 1940, many of which are on display in Hamilton's Grant Garden.

Wesleyan Students Earn Degrees
At the 187th Commencement ceremony on May 26, Wesleyan conferred 763 bachelor of arts degrees; 44 master of arts degrees; 22 master of arts in liberal studies degrees; and 11 doctor of philosophy degrees.

The Class of 2019 graduated on Sunday, May 26, in a ceremony concluding the College's 207th year. Freeman Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, delivered the Commencement address, advising graduates to "keep asking the hard questions and keep thinking of things we've not thought about - about social justice and inequality and seeking the truth." Hamilton's 490 graduates now join an alumni body of more than 23,000, many of whom have made important contributions to business, the professions, government and the arts.

Students Earn Degrees from the University of Vermont
Some 3,275 students were awarded degrees during the University of Vermont's 218th commencement ceremonies. Darren Walker who presides over the Ford Foundation, one of the world's most influential social justice philanthropies and one of the largest private foundations in the United States, delivered the address.

Class & Charter Day Awards 2019
Hamilton's annual Class & Charter Day took place on May 13. Established in 1950, the event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of College's charter on May 26, 1812. The ceremony features an address by a historian, trustee, alumnus, or faculty member whose (subject) topic is related to Hamilton's history and traditions. Academic and scholarly achievement prizes are awarded to students and faculty. More than 150 students received prizes this year. In addition, 10 faculty members were honored for their contributions in the classroom.

Smallen Creativity Grants
Twelve students were recently awarded grants from The Steven Daniel Smallen Memorial Fund. The Fund is designed to encourage creativity among Hamilton students by providing funds for projects displaying originality, expressiveness, and imagination. The fund was established in 1993 by former Vice President for Libraries and Information Technology David Smallen and his wife Ann in memory of their son Steven. Steven Smallen studied at Hamilton for a year while receiving treatment for leukemia, before losing his battle with cancer in 1992.

Senior Studio Art Tour
Fifteen senior art majors took part in a tour of five New York City artists' studios. The annual educational trip, led by Hamilton art faculty members, enables the seniors to see the artists' work, talk to them, and ask career-related questions. This year's tour included visits to the studios of Loren Munk, Eileen Quinlan, Ellie Krakow, Peter Krashes, and Laurel Nakadate, whose work explores a wide range of mediums and processes.

On May 27, 77 members of the Class of 2017 were inducted into Wesleyan's Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa Society, the oldest national scholastic honor society.

Hamilton College Emergency Medical Service Team
The Hamilton College Emergency Medical Service (HCEMS) is a New York State certified agency that is made up of 25 student emergency medical technicians (EMT) who provide 24-hour emergency service to the campus community during the academic year. Along with the rest of the nation, Hamilton recognizes the achievements of its EMTs during National Collegiate EMS Week, the week of November 12.
